How to Export
- Open the Data Exchange Center from the Business menu
- Click Export on the Chart of Accounts card
- The wizard displays the number of accounts available for export
- Click Export to CSV and choose a save location
What Gets Exported
The CSV file includes one row per account with the following columns:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Account Code | The unique account code |
| Account Name | The display name of the account |
| Account Type | The account type (e.g., Asset, Liability, Equity, Revenue, Expense) |
| Parent Account | The account code of the parent account, if any |
| Description | The account description |
| Tax Code | The tax code associated with the account, if any |
Using the Export as a Template
If you are setting up a new AccuArk system and need to build your chart of accounts from scratch, use the export to generate a template:
- Export the default chart of accounts that comes with AccuArk
- Open the CSV in a spreadsheet application
- Modify, add, or remove accounts to match your business needs
- Save as CSV and import the updated file
This is the fastest way to customize the chart of accounts for your business.
Common Uses
- Template — Export to get the correct column headers, then fill in your own accounts for import
- Backup — Keep a periodic export of your chart of accounts for safekeeping
- Review — Open the export in Excel to review your account structure, check for gaps in numbering, or identify unused accounts
- Bulk editing — Export your chart, rename accounts or update descriptions in Excel, and re-import. Because the import matches by account code, existing accounts are updated.
- Migration — Export your chart for use when setting up another AccuArk location or for reference when migrating to a different system
Tips
- Review parent relationships — The export includes the parent account code for each child account, making it easy to verify your account hierarchy
- Share with your accountant — The exported CSV is a convenient way to share your chart of accounts with your accountant or bookkeeper for review
