How to Change Your Password
Keeping your account secure starts with a strong password. AccuArk makes it easy to update your password from within the application, and enforces minimum strength requirements to protect your account. This guide walks through the process, the strength indicator, and what to expect on your very first login.
Steps to Change Your Password
- Open the Program menu from the main menu bar
- Click My Profile
- Select the Security tab
- Click Change Password
- Enter your current password in the first field
- Enter your new password in the second field
- Re-enter the new password in the Confirm Password field
- Click Save
If the current password is incorrect, the system will display an error and the change will not be applied. If the new password does not meet the strength requirements, the Save button remains disabled until the requirements are satisfied.
Password Requirements
Every password in AccuArk must meet these minimum criteria:
- At least 8 characters long
- Contains at least one uppercase letter (A-Z)
- Contains at least one lowercase letter (a-z)
- Contains at least one digit (0-9)
Passwords that meet these four requirements are accepted by the system. However, stronger passwords earn a higher score on the strength indicator.
Strength Indicator
As you type your new password, a color-coded strength bar appears below the field:
| Strength | Color | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Weak | Red | Meets minimum requirements but could be stronger |
| Medium | Yellow | Good length or character variety |
| Strong | Green | Excellent password with high entropy |
To push your score higher, consider these bonus factors:
- 12 or more characters ÔÇö Longer passwords are significantly harder to crack
- Special characters ÔÇö Include symbols like !, @, #, $, %, or & for additional strength
The strength indicator is advisory. Any password that meets the four minimum requirements will be accepted, but aiming for a green bar is recommended.
First-Login Temporary Password Flow
When a new employee logs in for the first time, the system detects that their password is marked as temporary and forces an immediate password change:
- The employee enters their username and temporary password on the login screen
- AccuArk immediately displays the Change Password dialog ÔÇö they cannot proceed to the main application until they set a new password
- They enter a new password that meets the strength requirements
- They confirm the new password and click Save
- The temporary flag is cleared and they are logged into the application normally
If the employee clicks Cancel on the Change Password dialog instead of setting a new password, they are logged out immediately. They will be prompted again the next time they log in. There is no way to bypass the temporary password requirement.
Troubleshooting
- Save button is disabled ÔÇö Your new password does not meet one or more of the minimum requirements. Check for missing uppercase, lowercase, digit, or insufficient length.
- "Current password is incorrect" ÔÇö Double-check that you are entering your existing password, not the new one, in the first field.
- Forgot your current password ÔÇö If you cannot remember your current password, ask a Super Admin or Location Admin to reset it from your employee profile. They can set a new temporary password, and you will be prompted to change it on next login.
- Account locked ÔÇö After multiple failed attempts, contact your administrator to unlock your account.
Tips
- Change your password regularly ÔÇö Update it every few months as a good security practice
- Never share your password ÔÇö Each employee should have their own unique credentials; sharing accounts makes the audit trail unreliable
- Passwords are encrypted ÔÇö AccuArk stores all passwords using secure encryption, so no one ÔÇö including administrators ÔÇö can see your actual password
