What Permissions Are Needed for Data Import and Export?
Each data type in the Data Exchange Center is controlled by its own permission. Your ability to import or export a particular data type depends on your user role and the permissions assigned to it.
Permissions by Data Type
The following table shows each data type and the minimum role level required to access its import and export features:
| Data Type | Minimum Role Level |
|---|---|
| Inventory Items | Manager |
| Customers | Manager |
| Vendors | Manager |
| Categories | Manager |
| Stock Levels | Manager |
| Serial Numbers | Manager |
| Price Tiers | Manager |
| CRM Deals | Manager |
| Employees | Location Admin |
| Chart of Accounts | Location Admin |
| Bank Transactions | Location Admin |
| Account Transactions | Location Admin |
| Outstanding Invoices | Location Admin |
| Outstanding Bills | Location Admin |
| Opening Balances | Super Admin |
How to Tell If You Lack a Permission
If a data type's card appears grayed out in the Data Exchange Center, you do not have the required permission for that data type. You will not be able to click its Import or Export buttons.
Requesting Access
If you need access to a data type that is currently grayed out, contact your system administrator. They can assign the necessary permission to your role through the employee management screens.
Default Access by Role
- Super Admins have all import and export permissions by default, including Opening Balances
- Location Admins have all import and export permissions by default, except Opening Balances
- Managers have access to operational data types (inventory, customers, vendors, stock, categories, price tiers, serial numbers, and CRM deals)
- Employees do not have import or export permissions by default
