FAQ — How Do I Allow Selling Items When Out of Stock?
By default, AccuArk allows selling items even when stock is zero. If your items are being blocked at the POS when stock runs out, the Allow Orders Exceeding Stock setting needs to be adjusted.
How to Enable Overselling
- Open the item in the Inventory Item form
- Go to the General Information tab
- Find the Allow Orders Exceeding Stock checkbox
- Check the box to allow sales when stock is zero or insufficient
- Click Save
How the Setting Works
| Setting | What Happens at POS |
|---|---|
| Checked (Allow) | The cashier can sell any quantity regardless of stock levels. No warning or block appears. Stock can go negative. |
| Unchecked (Block) | If the cashier tries to sell more than the available stock at the current location, a warning appears and the sale is blocked for that item. |
When to Use Each Setting
| Use Case | Recommended Setting |
|---|---|
| Items you can backorder from vendors | Allow (checked) |
| Service items or non-physical goods | Allow (checked) — services don't track stock anyway |
| Made-to-order or custom products | Allow (checked) |
| Limited inventory items (e.g., one-of-a-kind) | Block (unchecked) |
| Perishable goods with strict counts | Block (unchecked) |
| Items with serial number tracking | Block (unchecked) — each serial must be available |
Important Notes
- This setting is per-item. Each item can have its own configuration.
- Stock is checked at the current location where the register is assigned. An item might be in stock at another location but out of stock locally.
- Even with blocking enabled, a manager with override permissions may be able to approve the sale.
- For Kit items, the stock check applies to each component individually.
