FAQ — How Do I Set Different Prices for Different Customer Types?

AccuArk lets you set different prices for different customer groups (e.g., wholesale vs. retail, VIP members vs. walk-ins) using customer account types combined with promotional pricing rules.

How It Works

The pricing system uses two pieces:

  1. Customer Account Types — Categories you assign to customer accounts (e.g., Retail, Wholesale, VIP, Employee)
  2. Promotional Pricing Rules — Price rules on each item that target specific account types

When a customer is selected at the POS or on an invoice, AccuArk checks their account type and applies matching pricing rules automatically.

Step 1: Set Up Customer Account Types

Customer account types are configured in the Customer/CRM management area. Common types include:

Type Description
Retail Standard walk-in customers (default)
Wholesale Bulk buyers who get lower prices
VIP / Gold Loyalty program members with special pricing
Employee Staff members with employee discounts

Step 2: Create Customer-Type-Specific Pricing

  1. Open the item in the Inventory Item form
  2. Click the Pricing tab
  3. Click Add Promotion
  4. Configure the pricing rule:
Field Value Notes
Pricing Name Wholesale Price Descriptive name
Discount Type Special Price Sets a fixed price for this group
Discount Amount 8.00 The wholesale price (e.g., retail is $12.00)
Customer Type Wholesale Select the target account type
Quantity From 1 Applies from 1 unit
Quantity To 999999 Applies to any quantity
Start Date (leave empty or set far future) Permanent pricing
Enabled Checked Active
  1. Repeat for other customer types as needed
  2. Click Save

Example: Multi-Tier Pricing

For an item with a base price of $20.00:

Customer Type Discount Type Amount Effective Price
(All / Walk-in) (none — uses base price) $20.00
Wholesale Special Price $14.00 $14.00
VIP Percent Off 15% $17.00
Employee Percent Off 25% $15.00

How It Works at the POS

  1. Cashier starts a new sale
  2. Cashier selects or looks up the customer
  3. The customer's account type is identified (e.g., Wholesale)
  4. When items are added, the system checks for matching pricing rules
  5. The wholesale price is applied automatically
  6. The receipt shows the adjusted price

Combining with Quantity Discounts

You can combine customer-type pricing with quantity thresholds:

Rule Customer Type Qty From Qty To Discount
Wholesale base Wholesale 1 9 Special Price $14.00
Wholesale bulk Wholesale 10 999999 Special Price $12.00

This gives wholesale customers $14.00 each for small orders and $12.00 each for orders of 10 or more.

Tips

  • Customer Type = 0 (or All) means the rule applies to all customers including walk-ins
  • Customer-type-specific rules take priority over general rules
  • Always test pricing with the Test Promotional Pricing button to verify correct prices for each customer type
  • If no customer is selected at the POS, only "All" rules apply
