How to Enable and Disable a Location

How to Enable and Disable a Location

Every location has an active/disabled status that controls whether transactions can be processed there. Disabling a location has significant downstream effects that you should understand before making the change.

Where to Find the Setting

The "Disabled" checkbox appears at the bottom of the Location form, below the tabs. It is displayed in red text with the warning: "When checked, new transactions cannot be created at this location."

  • Unchecked = the location is active (normal operation)
  • Checked = the location is disabled

What Happens When You Disable a Location

When you check the "Disabled" box and click Save & Close, the following occurs:

  1. The location status is set to 0 (disabled) in the database
  2. All active machines at the location are automatically deactivated — this means every POS terminal at this location is turned off
  3. Machine hardware fingerprints are cleared — the machines are unbound from their physical hardware, so they would need to be re-paired if re-enabled
  4. A message shows how many machines were deactivated (e.g., "3 machines were deactivated at this location")

Important consequences:

  • No new sales, invoices, or transactions can be created at this location
  • All POS terminals at the location stop functioning
  • Disabled machines free up subscription slots
  • The location still counts toward your subscription's location limit (even when disabled)

What Happens When You Re-Enable a Location

When you uncheck the "Disabled" box and click Save & Close:

  1. The location status is set back to 1 (active)
  2. A machine selection dialog appears — you are shown a list of all inactive machines at this location and can choose which ones to reactivate
  3. Each machine you select is checked against subscription capacity — if activating a machine would exceed your plan's limit, it is blocked with a message
  4. Successfully reactivated machines become available for hardware pairing

Step-by-Step: Disabling a Location

  1. Open the location for editing (Program → Locations → double-click)
  2. Scroll down below the tabs to find the red "Disabled" checkbox
  3. Check the box
  4. Click Save & Close
  5. Confirm when prompted
  6. Note the message showing how many machines were deactivated

Step-by-Step: Re-Enabling a Location

  1. Open the location for editing
  2. Uncheck the "Disabled" checkbox
  3. Click Save & Close
  4. A dialog appears listing all inactive machines at this location
  5. Select the machines you want to reactivate
  6. Click OK — each machine is capacity-checked and enabled if allowed

Important Notes About Licensing

  • Disabled locations still count toward your location limit. Your subscription counts all locations regardless of status. If your plan allows 3 locations and you have 3 (even if one is disabled), you cannot create a 4th location.
  • Disabled machines do NOT count toward your machine limit. Only active machines consume subscription slots. Disabling machines frees up capacity.
  • If you need to permanently remove a location to free up a subscription slot, contact support.
