Introduction to Locations and Machines in AccuArk

Introduction to Locations and Machines

AccuArk uses a two-level organizational structure to represent your physical business:

  • Locations represent your stores, warehouses, or service sites.
  • Machines represent individual POS terminals (registers) within each location.

Why This Matters

Every transaction in AccuArk is tied to both a location and a machine. This structure allows you to:

  1. Track sales, inventory, and cash flow per store
  2. Configure different tax rates, policies, and payment methods for each location
  3. Control which payment options and POS features each register offers
  4. Monitor cash balances on every terminal independently
  5. Generate reports filtered by location or machine

How They Work Together

A location is a container for one or more machines. When you create a new POS machine, you assign it to a location. The machine inherits certain settings from its location (such as available tax rates) while maintaining its own independent configuration (such as enabled payment methods and receipt format).

Key Concepts

Concept Description
Location A physical store or business site with its own address, tax rates, and policies
Machine A POS terminal within a location, with its own payment settings, display options, and cash balances
Active vs. Disabled Both locations and machines can be active or disabled. Disabled items cannot process new transactions
Subscription Limits Your plan defines how many locations and machines you can have active

Where to Find These Settings

  • Program → Locations — View and manage all your store locations
  • Program → Machines or Program → Machine Configuration — View and manage POS terminals

Getting Started

If you are setting up AccuArk for the first time, follow these steps in order:

  1. Create your first location (or edit the default "Main Location")
  2. Configure the location's address, tax rates, and policies
  3. Create a POS machine and assign it to the location
  4. Configure the machine's payment methods, receipt settings, and display options
  5. Check in to the machine to begin processing sales
