How to Configure Inventory Receiving Settings for a Location
The Receiving tab controls how inventory receiving (from purchase orders) works with storage zones at a specific location.
Prerequisites
- The location must be saved (have an ID) before you can configure receiving settings
- Storage zones must be set up for the location (click "Manage Storage Zones" at the bottom of the Location form)
Opening the Receiving Tab
- Open the location for editing
- Click the Receiving tab
Available Settings
| Setting | Default | Description |

| Default Receiving Zone | None | The storage zone automatically suggested when receiving stock. Select from the dropdown of active zones at this location. |
| Require Zone Selection | Off | When checked, users must select a storage zone before they can complete a receive. They cannot skip zone assignment. |
| Allow Override | On | When checked, users may change the suggested zone to a different one during receiving. When unchecked, the default zone is mandatory. |
| Overflow to Unassigned | On | When checked, if no routing rule matches an incoming item, the stock is placed in an "Unassigned" zone rather than blocking the receive. |
| Disallow Inactive Zones | On | When checked, users cannot select disabled or inactive storage zones when receiving. Only active zones appear in the picker. |
How These Settings Work Together
Scenario 1: Simple Setup (small location)
- Set a Default Receiving Zone (e.g., "Back Room")
- Leave Require Zone Selection unchecked
- Receiving staff gets a suggestion but can skip zone assignment
Scenario 2: Strict Warehouse
- Set a Default Receiving Zone
- Check Require Zone Selection
- Uncheck Allow Override
- Every receive goes to the designated zone — no exceptions
Scenario 3: Flexible Multi-Zone
- Set a Default Receiving Zone
- Check Require Zone Selection
- Check Allow Override
- Staff must pick a zone, but they can choose any active zone
Saving Receiving Settings
The Receiving tab has its own Save button. Click it to save your receiving settings.
Important: The Receiving tab Save button is independent of the main Save & Close button on the Location form. You must click the Receiving tab's own Save button to persist these settings.
Managing Storage Zones
To set up or modify storage zones for this location, click the Manage Storage Zones button at the bottom of the Location form (outside the tabs). This opens a separate screen where you can create, rename, activate, or deactivate zones.
