Machine Settings: Activity Logging and Audit Trail
The Activity Log tab provides a complete audit trail of all actions performed on this POS machine. It is an essential tool for security monitoring, troubleshooting, and shift auditing.
Enabling Activity Logging
Three settings on the General tab control logging behavior:
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Enable POS Logger | Master toggle — turns activity logging on or off for this machine |
| Log Only Critical Activity | When checked, only critical events are logged (sales, refunds, cash operations). Routine actions (item searches, navigation) are excluded to save storage. |
| Enable Activity View | When checked, the Activity Log tab is visible and accessible. When unchecked, the tab is hidden. |
Viewing the Activity Log
- Open Machine Configuration
- Click the Activity Log tab
Filtering the Log
The Activity Log provides several filtering options:
| Filter | Description |
|---|---|
| Date Range | Use the Start and End date/time pickers to specify the time period. Default: today (12:00 AM to 11:59 PM) |
| Activity Type | Select from the dropdown to filter by event type (e.g., "All Activities", "Sales", "Refunds", "Cash Operations") |
Reading the Activity Log
Each entry in the log shows:
- Timestamp — when the action occurred
- Activity Type — what category of action it was
- User — who performed the action
- Details — a description of what happened
Pagination
The activity log loads 100 entries at a time. As you scroll down, more entries load automatically. This prevents slow loading on machines with extensive histories.
What Gets Logged
Common logged activities include:
- Sale completed (with invoice number and total)
- Refund processed
- Payment received (with method and amount)
- Shift check-in and check-out
- Safe drop performed
- Cash drawer opened
- Hold and resume actions
- Balance edits and resets
- Machine configuration changes
Tips
- Use the date range filter to narrow down to a specific shift or incident
- Use the activity type filter to find specific kinds of events quickly
- The Activity Log is read-only — entries cannot be edited or deleted
- Activity log data is stored in the database and persists until purged by an administrator
