Using the Slideshow Dashboard and Activity Log

Using the Slideshow Dashboard and Activity Log

The Dashboard tab and activity log provide visibility into your slideshow system's current state and history. This article covers the dashboard statistics, quick actions, and the activity log.

Dashboard Statistics

The Dashboard displays three key metrics for your current location:

  • Total Slides — The total number of slides in the system.
  • Total Playlists — The number of playlists available at your current location (including global playlists).
  • Active Schedules — The number of currently active schedules at your location.

These numbers update each time you open the Dashboard or refresh the data.

Quick Actions

The Dashboard provides quick-action buttons for the most common tasks:

  • New Slide — Jump directly to creating a new slide without navigating to the Slides tab first.
  • New Playlist — Create a new playlist immediately.
  • Emergency Override — Open the Emergency Override dialog (visible only with the MKT_EMERGENCY_OVERRIDE permission).
  • Launch Slideshow — Start the player immediately (visible only with the MKT_LAUNCH_PLAYER permission).

Quick actions respect permissions. Buttons that require permissions you do not have are either hidden or disabled.

Activity Log

The slideshow system logs all significant actions to the activity log. Every operation is recorded with a timestamp, action type, entity details, and additional context.

Logged Action Types

The activity log tracks these actions:

  • SLIDE_CREATE — A new slide was created.
  • SLIDE_EDIT — An existing slide was modified.
  • SLIDE_DELETE — A slide was deleted.
  • SLIDE_CLONE — A slide was cloned.
  • PLAYLIST_CREATE — A new playlist was created.
  • PLAYLIST_EDIT — A playlist was modified.
  • PLAYLIST_DELETE — A playlist was deleted.
  • SCHEDULE_CREATE — A new schedule was created.
  • SCHEDULE_EDIT — A schedule was modified.
  • SCHEDULE_DELETE — A schedule was deleted.
  • LAUNCH_PLAYER — The slideshow player was launched, including the playlist name and target screen.
  • EMERGENCY_ACTIVATE — An emergency override was activated.
  • EMERGENCY_DEACTIVATE — Emergency overrides were deactivated.

Using the Activity Log for Auditing

The activity log provides an audit trail that answers questions like:

  • Who made changes to a slide and when?
  • When was the last time the player was launched?
  • How often are emergency overrides used?
  • What was the timeline of actions during an incident?

Review the activity log periodically to monitor how the slideshow system is being used and to identify any unexpected activity.
