How to Perform a Safe Drop
A safe drop is the process of removing excess cash from the register and placing it in a secure location (like a safe). This reduces the amount of cash in the drawer and lowers the risk of loss.
When to Do a Safe Drop
- When the cash in your drawer exceeds a comfortable amount
- At regular intervals during busy shifts (e.g., every 2 hours)
- When instructed by your manager
- Before shift change if another employee will be using the same register
How to Process a Safe Drop
- Go to the Action Menu (bottom-left of the POS status bar)
- Click Safe Drop
- The Safe Drop dialog appears
- Enter the amount of cash you are removing from the drawer
- Add an optional note (e.g., "Mid-shift drop" or "$200 in twenties")
- Click Submit
- The system records:
- The amount dropped
- The date and time
- Who performed the drop
- The note (if any)
- The machine's cash balance is reduced by the dropped amount
Permission Required
You need the Safe Drop permission to perform this action. If you don't have it, the menu item may be hidden or a Manager Authorization dialog will appear.
Tracking Safe Drops
- Safe drops appear in the X-Report (shift summary)
- They are included in the shift check-out reconciliation
- Management can review all safe drops in the POS Shift Reports
- Each drop is logged with user, time, amount, and notes
Tips
- Count the cash carefully before entering the amount
- Always note the denomination breakdown if your organization requires it
- Safe drops reduce your expected cash at check-out — the system accounts for them automatically
- You can perform multiple safe drops during a single shift
