How to Process a Cash Payment

How to Process a Cash Payment

Cash is the most common payment method at the point of sale. Here's how to process it.

Steps — Standard POS

  1. Add all items to the sale
  2. Verify the Total Due in the totals panel
  3. Click the Cash button (or press Ctrl+C or F11)
  4. The Cash Payment dialog opens showing the amount due
  5. Enter the amount tendered by the customer (the amount of cash they gave you)
  6. The system calculates and displays the change due
  7. Click OK to complete the payment
  8. The cash drawer opens automatically (if configured in Machine Settings)
  9. Give the customer their change
  10. The system asks if you want to email the receipt (if a customer with an email is attached)
  11. The sale is complete and the screen resets for the next customer

Steps — Compact POS

  1. Add all items to the sale
  2. Click the Checkout / Pay button
  3. The Payment Method Chooser opens
  4. Click Cash
  5. Enter the amount tendered
  6. The system shows the change due
  7. Click OK to complete
  8. The cash drawer opens (if configured)

Tips

  • The cash payment requires the full amount — partial cash payments are processed through Split Payment instead
  • Amount Shortcuts: If configured in Machine Settings, quick-amount buttons (e.g., $1, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100) may appear for fast entry
  • The system will not process a cash payment if the sale has no items or no balance due
  • Cash payments update the machine's cash balance (visible in Machine Balance Check)

Cash Drawer

If your machine has a cash drawer connected and the "Open Drawer on Cash" setting is enabled:

  • The drawer opens automatically when the cash payment is completed
  • You can also manually open the drawer from the Action Menu → Open Cash Drawer at any time
