How to Process a Cash Payment
Cash is the most common payment method at the point of sale. Here's how to process it.
Steps — Standard POS
- Add all items to the sale
- Verify the Total Due in the totals panel
- Click the Cash button (or press Ctrl+C or F11)
- The Cash Payment dialog opens showing the amount due
- Enter the amount tendered by the customer (the amount of cash they gave you)
- The system calculates and displays the change due
- Click OK to complete the payment
- The cash drawer opens automatically (if configured in Machine Settings)
- Give the customer their change
- The system asks if you want to email the receipt (if a customer with an email is attached)
- The sale is complete and the screen resets for the next customer
Steps — Compact POS
- Add all items to the sale
- Click the Checkout / Pay button
- The Payment Method Chooser opens
- Click Cash
- Enter the amount tendered
- The system shows the change due
- Click OK to complete
- The cash drawer opens (if configured)
Tips
- The cash payment requires the full amount — partial cash payments are processed through Split Payment instead
- Amount Shortcuts: If configured in Machine Settings, quick-amount buttons (e.g., $1, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100) may appear for fast entry
- The system will not process a cash payment if the sale has no items or no balance due
- Cash payments update the machine's cash balance (visible in Machine Balance Check)
Cash Drawer
If your machine has a cash drawer connected and the "Open Drawer on Cash" setting is enabled:
- The drawer opens automatically when the cash payment is completed
- You can also manually open the drawer from the Action Menu → Open Cash Drawer at any time
