Creating Address, Product, and Custom Labels
AccuArk's Label Maker is a versatile tool that handles three distinct labeling scenarios: shipping and mailing address labels, product identification labels with barcodes, and freeform custom labels for any other purpose. Each mode presents tailored input fields so you can produce professional labels quickly.
Opening the Label Maker
Navigate to Tools > Label Maker from the main menu bar. Access to the Label Maker requires the TOOL_USE_PRINTERS permission. If the menu item is grayed out or missing, contact your administrator to have this permission assigned to your role.
Choosing a Label Mode
At the top of the Label Maker window, you will find the Label Type dropdown. This dropdown switches between three modes:
- Address — for shipping and mailing labels
- Product — for product identification labels with optional barcodes
- Custom — for freeform text labels
When you select a mode, the input area below the dropdown changes to show only the fields relevant to that label type. Switching modes does not clear data you entered in another mode; each mode remembers its own field values independently for the duration of the session.
Address Mode
Address mode is designed for shipping labels, return address labels, and mailing envelopes where a full printed label is preferred over printing directly on the envelope.
From (Sender) Fields
- Name — the sender's full name
- Company — optional company or organization name
- Address — street address line
- City / State / Zip — city, two-letter state abbreviation, and postal code
To (Recipient) Fields
- Name — the recipient's full name
- Company — optional company or organization name
- Address — street address line
- City / State / Zip — city, two-letter state abbreviation, and postal code
The printed label places the sender information in a smaller font at the top-left and the recipient information in a larger font at the center, following standard mailing conventions.
Practical Uses
- Shipping labels — affix to packages with both sender and recipient addresses
- Return address labels — fill in only the From fields and leave the To fields blank to print sheets of return address labels
- Mailing labels — fill in only the To fields when your envelopes already have a pre-printed return address
Product Mode
Product mode is designed for retail shelving tags, warehouse bin labels, and product packaging labels.
Input Fields
- Product Name — the display name printed prominently on the label
- SKU — the stock-keeping unit identifier
- Barcode Value — the numeric or alphanumeric value to encode in the barcode
- Price — the retail price displayed on the label
- Description — an optional short description or additional details
Feature Toggles
Three checkboxes control which elements appear on the printed label:
- Show Barcode — includes the barcode image on the label
- Show Price — includes the price on the label
- Show SKU — includes the SKU text on the label
Toggle these on or off depending on your labeling requirements. For example, warehouse bin labels might need only the barcode and SKU, while retail shelf labels need all three.
Practical Uses
- Retail shelf tags — product name, price, and barcode for scanning
- Warehouse bin labels — SKU and barcode for inventory pick operations
- Product packaging — full product details for items that need external labeling
Custom Mode
Custom mode provides a single large text field where you can type any content. The text is printed on the label exactly as entered.
Practical Uses
- Name badges — enter a name and title for event badges
- Asset tags — enter an asset number and department for equipment tracking
- Storage bin labels — enter a bin number, aisle, and shelf location
- Warning or instruction labels — enter safety notices or handling instructions
- Any non-standard label — anything that does not fit the address or product pattern
Custom mode gives you complete control over the label content without any predefined structure.
Tips
- You can switch between modes freely during a session. Your data in each mode is preserved until you close the Label Maker window.
- Combine Label Maker with the Avery preset system (covered in a separate article) to match your physical label stock before entering content.
- For repeat labeling tasks, consider keeping the Label Maker open while you work through a batch of items.
