How to Print Product Price Tags

How to Print Product Price Tags

AccuArk's Price Tag Printer lets you design and print professional product price tags with customizable layouts, barcode support, regular and sale pricing, and flexible paper stock options. This guide walks you through every feature of the tool.

Opening the Price Tag Printer

Navigate to Tools > Price Tag Printer from the main menu bar. Access to this tool requires the TOOL_USE_PRINTERS permission. If the menu item is grayed out or missing, contact your administrator to have the permission assigned to your role.

Product Data Fields

The left panel of the Price Tag Printer contains the product data fields that populate each tag:

  • Product Name — The display name printed on the tag. This is a required field.
  • SKU — The stock keeping unit code for the product. Optional, but recommended for inventory tracking.
  • Barcode Value — The numeric or alphanumeric value encoded in the barcode image. This is typically the UPC, EAN, or internal barcode number from your inventory system.
  • Regular Price — The standard retail price. This is a required field and always appears on the tag.
  • Sale Price — An optional discounted price. When a sale price is entered and the Show Sale Price toggle is enabled, the tag displays both the original regular price and the discounted sale price. This makes it easy for customers to see the savings at a glance.
  • Description — A short text description of the product. When enabled, this prints below the product name on the tag.
  • Unit of Measure — The selling unit for the product, such as “each”, “lb”, “oz”, “pack”, or “case”. This prints alongside the price to clarify what the customer is paying for.

Feature Toggles

Four checkboxes in the options panel control what content appears on each printed tag:

  • Show Barcode — When checked, the barcode image is rendered on the tag using the value from the Barcode Value field. The barcode is generated as a standard linear barcode image. Uncheck this if your tags do not need machine-readable codes.
  • Show SKU — When checked, the SKU text is printed on the tag. This is useful for employees who need to quickly identify products by their internal code.
  • Show Sale Price — When checked and a sale price has been entered, the tag displays both the regular price (typically shown with a strikethrough or secondary style) and the sale price (shown prominently). If no sale price is entered, this toggle has no visible effect.
  • Show Description — When checked, the product description text is printed below the product name. This is helpful for tags on display shelves where customers benefit from a brief product summary.

You can combine these toggles in any configuration. For example, a minimal tag might show only the product name and price with no barcode, SKU, or description. A full-featured tag might enable all four options.

Border Styles

Three border style options control the visual outline around each tag:

  • None — No border is drawn around the tag. The tag content prints directly on the paper without any surrounding line. This is ideal for pre-cut tag stock where the physical paper edge serves as the boundary.
  • Solid — A solid line border is drawn around the perimeter of each tag. This provides a clean, professional look and helps with cutting when printing on plain paper.
  • Dashed — A dashed line border is drawn around each tag. Dashed borders serve as cut guides, making it easier to trim tags by hand when using standard paper stock.

Choose the border style that matches your in-store presentation and the type of paper or tag stock you are using.

Font Settings

The font settings panel provides four separate font size controls, allowing you to emphasize the most important information on the tag:

  • Product Name Font Size — Controls the size of the product name text. Default is 10pt. Increase this for display tags where the product name needs to be read from a distance.
  • Price Font Size — Controls the size of the price text. Default is 14pt, making it the largest element on the tag by default. The price is typically the most important piece of information for customers, so it is sized for maximum visibility.
  • SKU Font Size — Controls the size of the SKU text. Default is 7pt. The SKU is primarily for internal reference, so a smaller size keeps it from competing with the product name and price.
  • Barcode Font Size — Controls the size of the numeric text printed below the barcode image. Default is 8pt. This text shows the human-readable barcode value beneath the barcode bars.

Adjust these sizes based on your tag dimensions and how much information you are including. Larger tags can accommodate bigger font sizes, while small tags may require reducing the defaults to fit all content.

Paper Stock Presets

The Paper Stock dropdown provides several standard tag size presets to get you started quickly:

  • Small tags starting at 1x1 inch, suitable for jewelry, small accessories, or shelf edge labels
  • Medium tags in sizes like 2x1 inch and 2x3 inch, common for general retail merchandise
  • Large tags up to 4x6 inches, suitable for display signage or detailed product cards

When you select a preset, the tag width, tag height, tags per row, tags per column, and margins are automatically populated with values optimized for that stock size. Select Custom from the dropdown if you need non-standard dimensions and want to configure every measurement manually.

Layout Configuration

The layout panel gives you precise control over how tags are arranged on the printed page:

  • Tag Width — The width of each individual tag in inches.
  • Tag Height — The height of each individual tag in inches.
  • Page Width — The width of the paper. Default is 8.5 inches (standard US Letter).
  • Page Height — The height of the paper. Default is 11 inches (standard US Letter).
  • Tags Per Row — The number of tags arranged horizontally across the page.
  • Tags Per Column — The number of tags arranged vertically down the page.
  • Top Margin — Space between the top edge of the paper and the first row of tags.
  • Bottom Margin — Space between the last row of tags and the bottom edge of the paper.
  • Left Margin — Space between the left edge of the paper and the first column of tags.
  • Right Margin — Space between the last column of tags and the right edge of the paper.
  • Horizontal Gap — The space between tags in the same row (left to right).
  • Vertical Gap — The space between tags in the same column (top to bottom).

These measurements work together to define the tag grid. For example, if your page is 8.5 inches wide with 0.25 inch left and right margins, and you have 3 tags per row with 2.5 inch tag width and 0.125 inch horizontal gaps, the tags will fill the available space evenly.

Preview and Printing

The right side of the Price Tag Printer displays a real-time preview of your tag layout. As you change any field, toggle, font size, or layout measurement, the preview updates immediately so you can see exactly how the printed output will look.

The preview shows:

  • The tag grid layout with the correct number of rows and columns
  • All enabled content (product name, price, sale price, SKU, barcode, description)
  • Border style as configured
  • Font sizes as configured
  • Accurate spacing based on your margin and gap settings

When you are satisfied with the layout, press Ctrl+P to open the standard Windows print dialog. From there you can select your printer, set the number of copies, and send the job to print. The print output matches the preview exactly, ensuring what you see on screen is what you get on paper.
