Keyboard Shortcuts and Common Controls

Keyboard Shortcuts and Common Controls

All printing tools in AccuArk share a consistent set of keyboard shortcuts and interface controls. Learning these once means you can work efficiently in any of the seven printing tools without relearning the interface. This article serves as a quick reference for the shortcuts, preview panel behavior, zoom controls, preset dropdowns, numeric input fields, and menu bar layout.

Keyboard Shortcuts

The following keyboard shortcuts work in every printing tool:

ShortcutAction
Ctrl+POpen the print dialog
Ctrl+SSave current settings as a template
Ctrl+OLoad a saved template
F5Refresh the preview
EscapeClose the tool

Additional Barcode Printer shortcuts:

ShortcutAction
Ctrl+EExport the current label sheet as an image file
Ctrl+CCopy the barcode image to the clipboard (when the preview panel is focused)

These shortcuts mirror the menu bar actions, so you can use whichever method is more convenient. The keyboard shortcuts are active whenever the printing tool window has focus.

Preview Panel

The right side of every printing tool shows a real-time preview of what will be printed. As you change settings on the left side of the form — adjusting margins, changing fonts, toggling features on or off — the preview updates automatically.

To avoid flickering during rapid edits, the preview uses a brief delay of approximately 300 milliseconds before redrawing. This means if you type several characters in quick succession or adjust multiple fields rapidly, the preview waits until you pause before it refreshes. This debounce behavior keeps the interface responsive.

If the preview does not update after making a change, press F5 to force a manual refresh. This can occasionally be needed if a setting change does not trigger the automatic refresh.

The preview is a visual representation only. It shows the layout, text positioning, and relative sizing, but the exact print output depends on your printer driver, paper alignment, and print settings.

Zoom Controls

Three buttons appear above the preview panel in every printing tool:

  • Plus (+) — Zoom in, making the preview larger for inspecting fine details such as small text, barcode clarity, or element alignment
  • Minus (-) — Zoom out, making the preview smaller to see the full layout at a glance
  • Reset — Return to 100 percent zoom, which is the default view

The zoom range is 10 percent to 500 percent. At 500 percent you can inspect individual pixels of barcode lines or verify that small text is readable. At 10 percent you can see how an entire multi-label sheet will look.

Zooming affects only the preview display on screen. It does not change the actual printed output. Whether you are zoomed to 50 percent or 300 percent, the printed page will be identical.

Preset Dropdowns

Most printing tools include a preset dropdown at the top of the layout section on the left side of the form. Presets are predefined configurations for common formats:

  • Barcode Printer — Label sheet presets (e.g., Avery 5160, Avery 5163, custom grid)
  • Label Maker — Avery label size presets and custom sizes
  • Price Tag Printer — Common tag dimensions
  • Envelope Printer — Standard envelope sizes (#10, #9, A2, 6x9, etc.)
  • Check Printer — 6 check stock format presets
  • Card Printer — 9 card size presets (CR-80, CR-79, custom, etc.)

When you select a preset from the dropdown, the tool automatically fills in the corresponding dimension, margin, and grid fields. This saves you from having to look up and manually enter measurements.

If you manually change any field after selecting a preset, the dropdown reverts to Custom to indicate that your settings no longer match the original preset exactly. This is informational only — your custom values are fully supported and will be used for the preview and print output.

Numeric Input Fields

Dimension and positioning fields throughout the printing tools use a special numeric text box that accepts only valid decimal numbers. These fields:

  • Accept digits 0 through 9 and a single decimal point
  • Reject letters, special characters, and multiple decimal points
  • Values are entered in inches (e.g., 3.375 for a standard credit card width, or 8.5 for US Letter paper width)
  • Leading zeros are accepted (e.g., 0.5 for half an inch)
  • The field validates on input, so invalid characters are simply ignored when typed

If you need to enter very precise measurements, the fields support up to three decimal places (thousandths of an inch), which is sufficient for all standard paper and card formats.

Menu Bar

Each printing tool has a menu bar with four items that provide quick access to the core functions:

Menu ItemKeyboard ShortcutDescription
Save TemplateCtrl+SSave the current layout settings as a named, reusable template
Load TemplateCtrl+OOpen a dialog to select and load a previously saved template
PrintCtrl+POpen the standard Windows print dialog to send the current layout to a printer
CloseEscapeClose the printing tool window

The menu bar is always visible at the top of the tool window. These four actions cover the complete workflow: configure your layout, optionally save it as a template for reuse, print your output, and close the tool when finished.
